Consultation Round 1: Draft Planning Scheme Amendment for Floodplain Management

Central Highlands Regional Council has commenced work on a Draft Planning Scheme Amendment(External link) for improved floodplain management across the region’s communities, under the new ‘Our Region, Our Resilience’ program.

To inform the Draft Planning Scheme Amendment, council's Planning & Environment team held a Floodplain Management Roadshow from 23 May to 2 June 2021. They travelled across the region, having conversations with community their vision for more prepared, responsive and resilient floodplain planning. They also hosted pop-up events to engage with community.

Community feedback is being collated to inform an amended approach towards to how we best deal with the management of floodplains across the region, and support more informed decision making on the development, land use and future of our communities, regionwide.

The next step in the amendment process is for council to finalise the proposed changes to the planning scheme. These maps are being updated to reflect the most current information available for each of our communities. Once these changes are drafted, they will be sent to the state government for review and approval to undertake the next round of consultation, where the team will revisit community to discuss the proposed changes and seek feedback.
