Council has the opportunity to seek funding for a long-haul coach bus shelter in Capella. If successful in securing funding, council will contribute 50% to the project costs.
The bus shelter will provide a refuge for the community, ensuring a more comfortable and convenient waiting experience. Overall, the bus shelter will contribute to the town's infrastructure, prioritising accessibility, safety for diverse groups within the community.
Council proposes that the bus shelter is installed in the location starred in red. This location was found to be the most suitable as it is the only section along the Peak Downs Street rest area which can be accessed by Longreach bound and Emerald bound buses. Translink (division of the Department of Transport and Main Roads with statewide responsibility for buses) and Kinetic (bus operator) were consulted in the selection of this location.
We would like the community's feedback on the feasibility of the proposed location in the survey and if there are any alternate location suggestions for the shelter, please pop a pin on the map below along with a brief explanation as to why the location chosen is more suitable.
The proposed location was selected based on:
Accessibility – shelter can be accessed by Longreach bound and Emerald bound buses.
Safety (proposed location is away from truck and recreational vehicles parking areas)
Proximity to the news agency (the shelter design will incorporate a lockable freight bin where the coach drivers will drop parcels out of the news agency’s business hours).
Let us know your feedback below.

When suggesting an alternate location to the one suggested by council please keep in mind:
The shelter may not restrict nearby driveways or intersection sightlines.
Review if the location is logical for passengers (distance form residences)
Review if accessibility and operational improvements need to be made to optimise the usability of the bus shelter.
Location needs to be easily accessible to Longreach and Emerald bound coaches
