Consultation has concluded
In early 2019, council invited the Central Highlands community to share their thoughts on proposed improvements to the streetscapes of Blackwater, Capella, Emerald and Springsure.
Design workshops and an online survey were used to engage local stakeholders in the design process. This gave our consultants insight into the issues, constraints and cultural identity of each town.
In August 2019, council endorsed the street beautification proposal, which provides a staged plan to enhance livability in the following ways:
improve safety where pedestrians interact with traffic
improve connectivity and access for people with disabilities
increase shade to improve comfort and experience of pedestrians
bring "greening" and colour to the streets
improve local and visitor experience
provide sustainable planting and improved water efficiency
improve traffic management and car parking efficiency
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this exciting initiative. Council are currently seeking funding to support the implementation of these projects.
