Consultation has concluded
The consultation period of this project is now complete. Thank you to everyone who was involved. We received 92 survey submissions.
Please view the project timeline on the right for more information on the current project stage.
The townships within the Central Highlands have experienced significant change to the demand on their water supply systems in recent years, with some areas operating under constant water restrictions. Central Highlands Regional Council are prioritising a plan for the whole region’s current and future water security to support growth in industry, agriculture and population.
This project will develop a water security strategy for each township in the region. The strategy will reassess the options available for future water supplies, if alternative sources of water are available and will produce a Level of Service (LOS) for the scheme.
Level of service means:
how much water the water supply system will typically be able to supply.
how often and for how long water restrictions/supply shortfall might occur.
the possibility of needing an emergency water supply due to a prolonged drought.
The Level of Service approach helps make sure that the 'bucket of water' available for treatment and distribution is big enough to supply the community's water needs into the future.
Why is it important to have your say?
The purpose of this survey is to understand the Central Highlands community's opinion on important items such as supply reliability, water quality, water restrictions and system improvements. The focus of this consultation is on urban water supply, meaning water that is delivered to properties via pipes in the street.
How to get involved:
Earlier this year, the community had the opportunity to register their interest to be notified of upcoming consultation opportunities to get involved in the development of council's water strategy. This opportunity is now open to the public across the Central Highlands.
To have your input on the water security strategy:
Take the survey online at the bottom of the page
visit your local library, council office or transaction centre to fill out a paper copy of the survey and return to the staff
This survey is open until 5.00pm on 30 May 2022.
Key information relating to this project will be shared on this project page. For enquiries about this consultation, please contact Central Highlands Regional Council on 1300 242 686.
