Youth Art Competition - People's Choice Voting

Congratulations to the winners of the People's Choice Award. The winners were Agnes Sullivan (5-8 years), Evie Sullivan (9-12 years) and Jason Johnston (13-18 years).

What’s your vision for 2043?

Together we’re creating a new community vision. Your Region, Your Vision is a chance for the community to create a 2043 vision for the Central Highlands, and a vision for each of the 13 communities in the region.

To get there we’ve been asking you for your ideas and aspirations and what the challenges are. The new visions will be created and owned by the community and will inspire and guide individuals, families, businesses, community organisations and government over the next 20 years.

We asked our youth of the Central Highlands to create an artwork inspired by their vision for the future for an opportunity to win 1 of 3 art supply prize packs!

“In 2043, I imagine living in a place where…” This could include things that depict the following:

  • Built environment (buildings, transport, infrastructure)
  • Natural environment (fauna, flora, habitat, environmental areas)
  • Community (the community, wellbeing, lifestyle, social networks)
  • Economy (jobs, growth, wealth, prosperity of our region)
  • Governance (community engagement, how decisions are made, leadership, partnerships)
  • Other (whatever else you imagine)

How can you get involved?

Vote for your favourite artwork for each of the age groups in the surveys below. View the artworks in the gallery on this page. Voting is open from 8 September 2023 until midnight 29 September 2023. You may only vote once for your favourite artwork for each of the age groups! The winners for each age group will be announced via the Central Highlands Regional Council Facebook page on Tuesday, 3 October 2023 at 5.00pm.

Winner 14- 18 years category

Jason Johnston was the only entrant for the 14 - 18 years category, so he automatically qualifies for a prize pack. Check out his vision for the Central Highlands in the 14 - 18 years entry photos. Congratulations Jason!

The journey so far...

On 5 May the vision conversation started. The vision team have travelled over 1,000 kms to hear from residents in all corners of the Central Highlands, hosting roundtable conversations and pop-up booths. Community visions have been shared through surveys and posts cards, DIY conversations, in libraries and customer service centres, at pop-up booths and community meetings. This first round of engagement ran through to 9 July 2023.
