Why is council developing a strategy for youth?

The strategy will recognise the ideas and issues of importance to young people and demonstrate Central Highlands Regional Council’s ongoing commitment to improving the health and wellbeing outcomes for young people aged 12 - 25 years.

It will also act as a guide of the events, programs and initiatives council will undertake to enhance the wellbeing and empowerment of youth.

How will my submission be used?

Council will continue to work collaboratively with our youth team and youth advisory groups to consider all constructive feedback when preparing the final version of the Youth Strategy and Action Plan 2023-2028, prior to adoption by council.

    Why do a survey?

A survey is being undertaken to:

    • find out what ideas you might have to make Central Highlands an even better place for young people and identify the issues and themes most important to young people aged 12-25
    • Hear varied perspectives including from young people, parents/caregivers, education and services
    • Provide baseline information of themes and local priorities to inform programs, services, and support applications for funding in specific areas

Why are there three different surveys?

Different surveys are provided for each of our target participants to help gain an understanding of the ideas and perceptions across audiences including young people, parents/carers, youth sector etc.

    I’m under 18 - do I need my parent/guardian’s permission to complete a survey?

It is preferred to obtain a parent/guardian’s permission to complete the survey.

If this is not possible or practical, young people of any age can give their own ‘informed and voluntary’ consent if they have capacity to understand the context, issues involved and are not coerced. If they do not understand, they should consider getting a parent or guardian to give consent to participate.

The survey will be anonymous, so no one will know it was you. No personal information or identifiable information will be published.

Can I help or be involved in other ways to develop the strategy?

You can share the survey link with friends, family and anyone within your networks.

We will also facilitate workshops and focus groups within the community and schools.

You can also provide a written or verbal submission to Coordinator Youth Development by emailing youth@chrc.qld.gov.au.

How will my privacy be protected and how will you use the survey results?

The survey will be anonymous. Information collected and any data shared publicly will not identify respondents. Full data sets will not be published or shared.

Usage of data collected is aimed at improving strategic policy, decision making and service design.
